I included some topics related to wilderness medicine in BBMS5100 Perspectives in Biochemical Sciences for my students in 2021/22, not only because of pure academic interest, but also of some practical sense; for example, there was a news report on 12 May about a deadly case of bee stings. In fact, relevant knowledge of this incident was covered by the lecture: personally, I tend to believe that it was less likely to be bee stings, instead it was more likely to be stings by wasps. Furthermore, insect stings or bites are often associated to a lethal immunological response called anaphylaxis.
